What´s Toastmasters?
A short Portrait of the organization
Toastmaster International is a worldwide non-profit organization. It has been founded uring the twentieth in the USA as an off-spring of the YMCA and grew over time up to over 9000 clubs.
Toastmasters´ mission is to help their members to inprove their skills of effective public speakung and Leadership in their business and personal life. The success of Toastmasters builds upon the mutual support of members in the local clubs which provide a positive and mutually supportive learning environment in which everys member has the opportunity to develop and practice communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster self-confidence and personal growth.
Most clubs meet regularly twice a month. All Toastmasters meetings follow the same agenda worldwide. In Munich we have clubs which meet in German, English, French and Italian. Please find more details in the "Clubs" section. Exact meeting dates you may find in the calendar.
The first Toastmasters club was established on October 22, 1924, in Santa Ana, California, by Dr. Ralph C. Smedley, who conceived and developed the idea of helping others to speak more effectively. More clubs were formed, and Toastmasters International was incorporated under California law on December 19, 1932.
At Toastmasters it is vital to improve yourself continuously. Even if this is more self centered - competitions play quite a role in the clubs.
